Canada, being a land of immigrants, is filled with individuals who have migrated here, but have left members of their family behind in their country of origin, for one reason or another. This is often unavoidable, as it is not easy for an elderly individual to migrate their entire life overseas, and across borders. The Canadian government recognizes there are many families who are separated by borders and oceans, which do not get to see each other as often as they would like. For this, they have introduced the parents and grandparents super visa. The super visa program, allows parents and grandparents to apply for a document which allows them to visit Canada an unlimited number of times during the period which it is valid, and stay in Canada much longer than is typically allowed on a visitor’s visa. Though this does not allow families to reunite on a permanent basis, it does allow them to reunite much more often, for extended periods of time. Throughout this article, I will explain what a super visa is, and how to apply for one.
A super visa essentially a multiple entry visa. Specifically, the super visa is a temporary resident visa which is granted for a 10 year period, and allows individuals to enter Canada as many times as they would like. During this time, the visa-holder can stay in Canada for a period of up to 2 years.
First and foremost, the parents or grandparents of the Canadian citizens or permanent resident extending the invitation to visit cannot be inadmissible to Canada.
The most important thing to remember when applying for a super visa, is that as the applicant, you are still only requesting to enter Canada for a temporary period of time. Therefore, the most important thing to do in your application is prove you have strong ties to your home country. This will hopefully convince an immigration officer you don’t have any intention of remaining in Canada beyond your authorized stay. To show strong ties to your home country, you can provide:
Furthermore, it is necessary for you to prepare for your trip to Canada, before you submit your application, because many elements of your application require you to show you have planned this trip, and you will be able to support yourselves for the duration of your stay in Canada.
You must have Canadian medical insurance coverage for a minimum of 1 year from the time you enter Canada. This requirement stays the same each time you enter Canada.
It is very important to know that any dependents in the family cannot be included on this application. Only parents or grandparents together with their spouses or common-law partners can be included with the principal applicant on an application for a super visa, and ultimately can travel to Canada with the parent or grandparent of the Canadian citizen, if the application is approved.
Here are the details of the Low-Income Cut off Requirements
