No, not everyone needs a Temporary Visa to visit Canada, some countries are exempt from needing a visa to travel to Canada. You must research and ask the immigration officer in the country that you reside in, if a visa is necessary. While some countries are exempt others are not, if the country requires a visa to visit Canada then you must apply to do so with all necessary documentation that is needed to apply for a Temporary Visa to visit Canada.

What types of documents do I need to show the immigration officer?

While you do not need a visa to visit transit Canada, you will need to show the immigration officer required documentation which will permit you to travel to Canada. You will need to show the immigration officer proof that you meet all the requirements that are needed to enter Canada, and they must be satisfied with the documentation that you are presenting them with. Further, a medical exam or police clearances may be required.

Can any doctor perform the medical exam?

There will be a specific doctor that will be performing your medical exam these doctors are known as the panel physicians. The panel physician will do a thorough examination, and may refer you to have a complete chest x-ray and any necessary laboratory testing. Once your medical exam has been completed, the panel physician will send the result of your examination to Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) directly.

What must I bring to my medical examination appointment?

  • You will be required to bring your passport or driver license with photographic identification of you and signature,
  • If you wear eye glasses or contact lenses you must bring those also to your appointment,
  • Any medical results or report if you have had any previous medical problem
  • And a medical report form

Does the panel physician make the final decision?

The panel physician is not permitted to make the final decision about your medical exam, Citizenship and Immigration Canada makes the final decision.

How will I be notified if there’s anything wrong in my medical exam?

If there’s anything wrong in your medical exam, Citizenship and Immigration Canada will inform you about it in writing.

Do I need to have a police background check?

Whether or not you are required to have a visa to visit Canada, you may still be required to have a police background check, to see if you have any criminal record.

How does Citizenship and Immigration Canada process my application?

  • Your application will be reviewed to make sure all appropriate documents are completed,
  • Citizenship and immigration Canada will determine if you are allowed to enter Canada by doing a background screening
  • If a medical examination is required, they will send you information on how to go about doing it,

Can I be denied a Temporary Visa?

You can be denied a Temporary Visa for many reasons, such as insufficient funds in your bank account. You will need to show Citizenship and Immigration Canada that you have sufficient funds to travel, and take care of yourself for the length of time you are requesting.
