Temporary Foreign Worker Application at Port of Entry

Temporary Foreign Worker Application at Port of Entry

Many applicants, instead of filing applications from their home country, choose to do so at a Port of Entry. A Port of Entry is basically an entry point along the Canadian border. In order to enter at a Port of Entry, you must show a Canadian Border Services Agent that you meet the basic requirements and, if they are willing to make a decision for you on the spot, it is possible to enter Canada.

There are many documents you should readily have on hand if you choose to enter at a Port of Entry and wish to be successful. The documents you may have to provide include,

  • Your complete application
  • A signed job offer
  • A positive Labour Market Impact Assessment
  • A temporary resident visa (if applicable)

Like an online or paper application overseas, you will still be assessed on the basic requirements as I mentioned earlier where a border officer will decide if you can enter on the grounds of,

  • whether you pose a threat to Canadian citizens or permanent residents
  • whether you will overstay your authorized time in Canada
  • whether you face any inadmissibility (medical, criminal, or otherwise)
  • any other reasons they feel that needs to be considered

Unlike an online or paper application overseas, you do not have to wait for the processing time, however, the risk of being denied at the Port of Entry may result in a loss of employment and you would have accrued the cost of coming to Canada for nothing.

At Akrami & Associates, we offer an entry package that may be beneficial to your situation. Although it is not an official legal document, it will help ease your way through and make sure that you have the right documentations as well as how you should present yourself at the Port of entry.
