There are two ways to sponsor your spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner, as a permanent resident; inland or outland. The main differences between the two, whether your partner is already in Canada (inland) or if they are outside of Canada (outland) while you sponsor them, is the processing times and the forms you are required to complete.
Before making an application, you should read about the sponsorship class that you have elected, in this case, sponsoring your spouse living outside of Canada. Once you have read and continue to choose this path, there are three main components of the process, which includes,
1. Gathering your documents
2. Completing your application
3. Mailing your application and all the supporting documents
In terms of gathering your documents, you will have to include,
Depending upon which country you live in, there will also be specific instructions for you to follow. In order to successfully gather all of the documents required, you should use the “Document Checklist” as a guide.
When completing the application, it is imperative that you fill out all the forms correctly. This will prevent delays and denials. Some of the forms you need to complete include,
The Generic Application Form for Canada
The Additional Family Information form
The Sponsored Spouse/Partner Questionnaire
When you are finished your application, you will send your complete application and supporting documents to your sponsor. Your sponsor will then include his/her sponsor forms and documents to the package and send them to the Case Processing Centre in Mississauga where it will be reviewed.
