Significant Benefit Work Permit

What is the Significant Benefit Work Permit

The Significant Worker Benefit Program is a special type of work permit that is given if you show how you will socially, culturally, or economically benefit Canada.

There is certain documentation you must show to the officer at a port of entry. This includes:

  • Your passport

  • A job offer from your employer

  • You should show your business plan or itinerary which lays out your plans to show how you will benefit Canada

There are categories the work permit may fall in:

  1. Canadian Interests

  2. Entrepreneurs and Self Employed

  3. Intra-Company Transferee (L-1 Visa)

  4. Emergency Repairs

  5. Or Reciprocal Employment

If your significant benefit work is deemed valid, then you will not require a labour market opinion (LMIA).

The significant worker benefit permit can be renewed as many times as you want depending on your work. But this will not lead to permanent residence.

The processing times to find out if you labour market opinion exempt is 10-20 days. You will receive a written document of this and you can gear this on to your application.

It is at the officer’s discretion on whether or not you will be accepted into Canada. Therefore you must maintain good communication with the officer. If the officer feels you pose a risk to Canadian society, they will deny you entry.

It is recommended to consult with a legal professional to present the strongest application to the officer. This will further increase your chances of acceptance. But if you are applying without assistance, it is highly recommended you comply with all the guidelines of the program and know enough about it too.
