About Green Cards

A Green Card is an official identification card which is given to permanent residents in the United States. The card acts as proof of your permanent residency. A permanent resident is usually authorized to work and live in the U.S on permanent bases. A Green Card is usually issued by Immigrations and Naturalization Service.

There are many way you may be able to receive your Green Card:

• You may be sponsored by a family member;
• You could also get a Green Card based on a permanent job offer;
• You also may be able to go through refugee or Asylum Status.

• American Child of a U.S. citizen;
• American Indian born in Canada;
• Cuban Native;
• Haitian Refugee;
• Informants;
• Victims of Trafficking ( T Nonimmigrant) and
• Iraqi who assisted the U.S. government.

Once you do receive your Green Card, you may have to abide by the conditions of permanent residency. If the conditions of permanent residency are not met, you may be removed from the country.

You may be eligible to apply for United States Citizenship or naturalization after five years of residency. This period may depend on how you received your Green Card. For instance, if you are married to a U.S citizen, this period may be reduced to three years.
