In order to qualify for a TN visa, your profession will have to be listed on the lists of professionals covered by North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).

TN visa usually requires you to have a job offer from a U.S. employer in one of the listed professions under NAFTA. Most professions require a high level of education. Here are some of the examples of professions covered by NAFTA:

General

Accountant

Baccalaureate or Licenciatura Degree; or C.P.A., C.A., C.G.A. or C.M.A.

Architect

Baccalaureate or Licenciatura Degree; or state/provincial license2

Computer Systems Analyst

Baccalaureate or Licenciatura Degree; or Post-Secondary Diploma3 or Post-Secondary Certificate4, and three years experience

Economist

Baccalaureate or Licenciatura Degree

Engineer

Baccalaureate or Licenciatura Degree; or state/provincial license

Medical/Allied Professional

Dentist

D.D.S., D.M.D., Doctor en Odontologia or Doctor en Cirugia Dental; or state/provincial license

Dietitian

Baccalaureate or Licenciatura Degree; or state/provincial license

Teacher

College

Baccalaureate or Licenciatura Degree

Seminary

Baccalaureate or Licenciatura Degree

University

Baccalaureate or Licenciatura Degree

 

 

The list of professional is not limited to the above, but this gives you an idea of the education and skill requirements.

If your profession is not listed in the professions covered by NAFTA, then you may not qualify for a TN visa, but you may have other options that are better suited for your situation.
