Who qualifies under the Family Sponsorship category for a Canadian Immigration Visa?
In this category it is normally close relatives of either a Canadian citizen or a Canadian Permanent Resident.
For the most part, in order to qualify under the Family Sponsorship category you must be related to the person in which you are Sponsoring or the person who is sponsoring you.
There are several different ways in which you can be deemed to be related, and they are:
-
Being a spouse, common-law partner or conjugal partner
-
A parent or grandparent
-
Dependent child
-
A brother, sister, nephew, niece or grandchild that is: orphaned, unmarried and under the age of 18
-
An intended adopted child that is under the age of 18
Are there examples as to what would not be considered in the Family Sponsorship category?
Yes, there are a few reasons as to who and what relationships would not be deemed to be classed under the Family Sponsorship category. Some examples would be:
-
If your spouse, common-law partner or conjugal partner is under the age of 16
-
Bigamy or polygamy- which means that your spouse was married to someone else at the same time as when you got married. They are continuing a relationship with more than one person
-
If you as the sponsor have a previous undertaking that is still existing to support a previous spouse, common-law partner or conjugal partner
-
If you and the person who you wish to sponsor have been separated for at least a year and either one of you is in a common-law relationship with someone else, and;
-
If/when you applied for Permanent Residence the person whom you wish to sponsor was a non-accompanying family member of you and was not examined
It is very important to remember that in order to prove your relationship to whomever it is there will be specific documentation that you will be expected to provide and include in your application.
