Can you and your family receive medical treatment while your claim is being processed?
Yes, to an extent you will be able to receive medical treatment. The Federal Government of Canada has guaranteed that emergency medical treatment will be available to you at no charge. This is available to anyone who can’t afford to buy their own medical insurance. There are also some medical clinics that offer free check-ups for refugee claimants.
Are there any other programs available to you once you claim has been processed?
There are several programs that will be waiting for your claim to be processed. Some of these programs are:
- Health Care- this provides limited and temporary coverage of health care benefits to refugees
- Help to Adjust- Programs are offered that can help you to adjust to a new life in Canada
- Financial Assistance- there are several programs that are there to help you establish yourselves in your new home
- Assistance for government- sponsored refugees- In this program you will receive initial resettlement support from the Government. And;
- Your rights- this program will outline for you the rights that you have as a refugee. It will explain that the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms protects all of Canada’s people.
Once your claim has been processed there will definitely be more resources available to you and your family that is going to be coming with you. Canada is always working to improve our system in any way that we can.
