The Nova Scotia demand express entry program allows the province to select highly skilled individuals who want to live in Nova Scotia permanently and either have a permanent full-time job offer from a Nova Scotia employer or have the ability to attach quickly to Nova Scotia’s labour market.
The Nova Scotia Office of Immigration holds the right to consider only specific types of jobs and occupations for nomination in regards to the economic situation at the time. It is different from the normal Express Entry program because the applicants do not necessarily have to have a job offer. A nominee, along with his/her current spouse and dependent children under the age of 19 may become permanent residents. The candidates are assessed through a points system that measures a variety of things including education and language. Candidates must have at least one year of experience in the past 5 years and in one of the 29 skilled occupations considered in-demand. If the individual did not go to school in Canada, they must have their foreign diploma assessed by a designated body to find out its equivalency to Canadian schooling.
How to apply?
Candidates have two options when applying:
- apply directly to the Nova Scotia Office of Immigration and then enter the Express Entry pool with a provincial nomination
- be selected from the Express Entry pool by the Nova Scotia Office of Immigration (NSOI)
When making an Express Entry profile, you are able to select where you would like to live and the details of you education and work experience. Based on this information, the NSOI can select candidates. A benefit is that once a complete file is submitted along with a provincial nomination, the government acts quickly and it takes about 6 months to process and get the permanent residency.
Minimum Requirements for Nova Scotia Demand: Express Entry
- Foreign diploma, certificate, or credential and its educational credential equivalency assessment by a designated body or Canadian educational credential
- 1 year of full-time experience, or equivalent part-time, paid work experience. This must have been completed in the last 5 years.
- Completion of the minimum language proficiency threshold; which is currently CLB 7 in all four language abilities (reading, writing, speaking, and listening). This can be completed in either French or English.
- all documentation must be valid.
- a minimum of 67 points to need to be obtained to pass the points test
- you must also show that you have the minimum amount of funds required to establish yourself and your family in Nova Scotia and to pay your immigration costs and travel expenses. (funds can be in the form of: cash, documents that show property or capital payable to you e.g. stocks, bonds, etc.., documents that guarantee payment of a set amount of money to you e.g. bankers drafts, cheques, traveller’s cheques, or money orders
