For starters, what is Express Entry?
In 2015 the Canadian government has started a new and improved immigration program. This program will allow “Express Entry” to immigrants that meet the requirements to fill open jobs that there are no available Canadians for.
Are you required to hire an immigration representative for Express Entry?
You are NOT required to hire an immigration representative for this application process. However, hiring a representative for the Express Entry will allow you to ensure that all of the requirements are met and that the application is filled out properly and efficiently. Our immigration representatives are here to help you in any way that we can, while working towards making the process less overwhelming.
What is the first step of the Express Entry application?
You will start the whole Express Entry application process by first filling out an online application. This application will allow you to outline your:
- Work experience
- Any language abilities you may have- there is a language test that is required. This section is where your valid language test results will be inputted.
- Education- if your education took place outside of Canada you will be required to complete an Education Credential Assessment. (This will allow you to gain points towards you Express Entry Form) *This may not be required if you have at least 1 year experience working in Canada or you have experience in a Skilled Trade*
- Any important skills that you may possess
What happens next?
Once you have completed the first part of the application, you will be given a score. This score is given to you based on the application information you have submitted. This score will help to figure out where to place you, using the Comprehensive Ranking System.
You may notice that your score will periodically change. Don’t panic! The changes are due to other candidates being added and/or removed from the Express Entry Pool.
You may be able to obtain an Invitation to Apply. This will be received if you receive a high score within the required areas. You can gain points by:
- Securing a job offer that was given to you
- Having a provincial or territorial nomination received; and,
- By having the skills or experience to demonstrate that you will be successful in Canada
What do you do if you receive an Invitation to Apply?
If you receive an Invitation to Apply in regards to the Express Entry Program, you will then have 60 days to submit your online application. This application will be for Permanent Residence in one of the programs available. Your invitation will set out which programs you will be eligible to apply for.
Just a reminder, it is not guaranteed that just because you got an offer that you will be accepted.
