Find out eligibility for Express Entry & a Guide to Profile Creation

The Express Entry program has become one of the most popular immigration programs for foreign nationals from around the world to obtain permanent residency in Canada. Of course, in order to apply for Express Entry and be eligible to apply for permanent residency in Canada, there are many eligibility requirements that must be met. Additionally, for the Express Entry process, there are two steps that one must take in order to successfully complete the process. Therefore, in this article, I will explain the eligibility requirements for Express Entry as well as guide you through the first step of Express Entry which is the profile creation.

What is Express Entry

The Express Entry system is utilized and intended to manage applications for permanent residency in Canada under specific federal economic immigration programs. It is essentially created to assist foreign nationals to come to Canada based on several factors that will be beneficial to the Canadian economy and labour market. Additionally, the Express Entry program was also created to upgrade from the traditional Canadian immigration process and will result in faster processing times for permanent residency applications.

Subsequently, the Express Entry program also helps foreign skilled workers from all around the world, from a different array of fields, access the program and apply for permanent residency in Canada based on their work experience, education, language ability, skills, and any other details that would help the Canadian government assess the individual. Essentially, so long as the individual meets the eligibility requirements, they can apply.

Please note that the Express Entry program is not meant to take employment away from potential Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada. The Express Entry system is intended to compliment Canada’s workforce with foreign skilled workers and allow them to have the opportunity to benefit the country economically.

Eligibility Requirements for Express Entry

First and foremost, in order to qualify under the Express Entry system, you must first qualify under one of the following three federal economic immigration programs:

Another alternative route that can be pursued through the Express Entry system is by being nominated by a province or territory in Canada. This is referred to as the Provincial Nominee Program and it is intended to meet the labour market needs of each specific province or territory.

Furthermore, after you have registered yourself into the Express Entry system, you will be placed in a pool of potential candidates under these aforementioned categories. Once placed in the pool, you will be ranked against the others based on your qualifications and other significant factors. If you are one of the highest ranked candidates, then Immigration will choose to invite you to apply for permanent residency in Canada.

It is important to acknowledge that candidates are ranked based on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points you acquire. As previously mentioned, the CRS ranks you in comparison with other eligible candidates, based on your age, education, language abilities, work experience, whether you have a Canadian spouse, if you have arranged employment in Canada, and also how you can directly benefit the Canadian economy and labour market.

Guide to Profile Creation

In this part of the article, I will address the steps to take in order to create your Express Entry profile. This is the first step in the Express Entry application process; therefore, it is very important to start the process with strong documents and information.

Step 1: Gather Documentation and Information

Even before creating your profile on Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC)’s website, you must ensure that you have the required documentation and information to submit online. Very important examples that you must have prior to applying online is your language test results; your National Occupational Classification (NOC) code for each employment position you currently have and have had in the past; and your education must be assessed to verify the Canadian equivalent.

Essentially, in order to create your Express Entry profile, you will need the following documentation and information:

Step 2: Create MYCIC Account

Once you have collected all of the aforementioned documentation and information, which is the most difficult part, you can proceed to create your MYCIC account online. You will have your own log in information that you can access at any time to check the status of your application.

Step 3: Complete Express Entry Profile

Once you have created your account and have gathered all of the requested documentation and information, you can submit the documents online through your Express Entry profile. At this point, once your application is submitted, you will be notified if you are eligible for Express Entry. If so, you will be placed into the Express Entry pool. If you are selected from the pool, you will be invited to apply for permanent residency, which is the second step in the Express Entry program. Additionally, CIC will inform you on which program you can apply for permanent residency under.
